The ICT4Water cluster

The ICT4Water cluster is a hub for EU-funded research and innovation projects on ICT applied to water management. Currently, around 40 projects are members of the cluster. These are both ongoing projects and projects that were members of the cluster before their completion. In the latter case, the ICT4Water site continues to display links to the project’s web pages and to selected project outcomes (e.g. Videos, IT tools open to the public). This permanent link between the cluster and the projects, even after their completion, helps showcase project results and supports their dissemination and exploitation.

VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd (VTT)

Besides the coordination of the project, VTT will be involved in SWAMP architecture and platform related work package and responsible for deployment and run-time management services. In addition, VTT will be active in extending the IoT solutions for SWAMP platforms and in developing drones more capable for autonomous operations and for acting as communication solution for sensors and actuators. VTT will also be involved in specifying the value proposition of applications for end-users, and in specifying, developing, and evaluating the pilots in the areas where VTT developed objects are used.

Intercrop Iberica

Intercrop will lead the project in regard with implementing the pilot in Spain. The company also works on different tasks such as pilot specifications, communication and exploitation of the results. The task of helping VTT in management of project is also part of the main role.

LeverTech Tecnologia Sustentável (LEV)

LeverTech will lead Task 6.3 (Exploitation) in WP 6 given its commercial nature of technology integrator and interest in exploiting the results of the SWAMP project. Also, it will collaborate in the pilot specification (Task 5.1) and evaluation (Task 5.6) where it will both contribute to the project and better understand the outcomes and the way they can be applied to the market. Also, it will contribute to Task 6.2 (Communication).

Consorzio di Bonifica dell’Emilia Centrale (CBEC)

As a consortium of farmers, CBEC provides one of the pilot of the project: the Italian pilot. For this reason it will lead Task 5.2 assuming the responsibility for putting into practice the scientific and technological solutions settled on previous tasks. In this sense CBEC will contribute on the identification of the requirements and specification necessary to the IoT platform and will take part to the evaluation of the pilots, investigating from a practical perspective the benefits of the settled platform in terms of irrigation, water management and water wastage reduction.

Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE)

UFPE will have a bold contribution to this project, by participating to 5 out of 6 WPs. UFPE will be responsible for leading WP4 (End user application). It will also participate actively to WP1 (Architecture and Platform – Task 1.1 – Requirements and Specification), WP3 (Estimation and optimisation services, Task 3.2 Optimisation of irrigation analysis), WP4 (End user application – Task Smart Irrigation apps), WP5 (Pilot, Task 5.1 Pilots specifications), WP6 (Impact creation measures, Tasks 6.1 Dissemination and 6.2 Communication), and WP7 (Management, Task 7.1 Administration). UFPE will bring years of expertise in coordinating industrial and academic research projects, at international level. The members of the UFPE team have both technical expertise and background to carry advanced research in several aspects of the project scope, namely design and analysis of protocols and communication aspects for IoT environments, machine learning, big data analytics, and mathematical modelling of optimization problems.

Federal University of ABC (UFABC)

UFABC will be Brazilian coordinator of the project and also will lead Work Package 1 (Architecture and Platform), as well as contribute in other work packages.  Also, it will be involved in the general management of the project, together with VTT, which is the coordinator. The collaborators of UFABC involved in this project are faculty members who have complementary skills and abilities needed in order to achieve the goals of the project, namely in administrative and research management, Internet of Things, cloud/fog computing and Big Data. They belong to the NUVEM Strategic Research Unit, which receives funding directly from the university’s budget and also from funding agencies. NUVEM develop different activities ranging from five broad research areas: smart societies, virtual sensations, connected mobility, extreme computing and integrated universes.
